Pre-operation Preparation
• Safety Measures: Ensure the engine is completely cooled and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent accidental starting.
Use a jack and support to secure the vehicle and ensure safe operation.
• Tool Preparation: Common tools: wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, torque wrenches.
• Specialized tools: flywheel locking tools, camshaft positioning tools, timing chain tensioner pins, etc. (specific to different vehicle models).
• Environmental Requirements: Keep the work area clean and prevent dust or foreign objects from falling into the engine.
Disassembly Steps
• Remove External Accessories: Remove the alternator belt, air conditioning compressor belt, crankshaft pulley, valve cover, etc., to expose the timing system.
• Release Chain Tension: Use a special tool to compress and lock the timing chain tensioner piston to prevent it from popping out automatically.
• Mark Key Positions: Before disassembly, use a marker to mark the relative positions of the chain and sprockets for reference during subsequent installation.
• Remove the Chain and Related Components: Remove the guide rail, tensioner, sprockets, and timing chain in sequence, paying attention to the order and direction to avoid confusion.
