General operating procedures

Preparation work

Ensure that the engine is completely cooled down and turned off, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery (required for some models).
Remove relevant accessories (such as intake manifold, water tank, intercooler, etc.) to expose the crankshaft pulley/sprocket and camshaft area.

Positioning top dead center

Rotate the crankshaft clockwise with a wrench to align the TDC mark (usually "0 °" or "1-4 top dead center") on the crankshaft pulley with the fixed mark on the cylinder block or timing cover.

Fixed crankshaft and camshaft

Install crankshaft locating pins/tools to prevent crankshaft rotation.
Install the camshaft positioning fixture to ensure that the camshaft signal plate or timing teeth are in the specified position (such as QR code facing up, small circular hole facing vertically, etc.).

Install timing chain/belt

Install a new chain or belt in a tension-free state, ensuring that its teeth are perfectly aligned with the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears.
Some models require the use of specialized calipers to fix the sprocket, and then loosen the screws for disassembly and assembly.

Tension and re examination

Adjust the tensioner to the specified tension (some models require compression of the tensioner and insertion of the locking pin).
Manually rotate the crankshaft 2 turns and confirm again that all markings are still aligned and that the positioning tool can be installed smoothly.

Recovery and Testing

Reinstall all disassembled components, connect the battery, start the engine and check for any abnormal noise or fault codes.
